Machinery RingPlease note, until further notice, we are no longer taking members for our machinery ring.
South West Wood Fuels run a machinery ring. The chipper is a TP200 with 8" capacity and suitable to produce chip which is of a high quality fuel grade. Chipper Protocol Chipper Protocol for adoption by the machinery ring as of 15th October 2003. All hirers must have LANTRA approved training.
We arrange courses throughout the year – this is a day course costing from £60 and will be held at a site in Devon where you can also see a forestry operation and 150kW boiler in action.
Requirements:
Hire
On collection the hirer will: Sign a Terms and Conditions document
Complete and sign a Risk assessment for the machine and for the site where it is to be used
Provide proof of insurance
Sign an agreement not to sub-contract the chipper or allow unsupervised operators to use it
Agree and sign booking period
Agree to complete a usage log
On collection of the chipper a £300 deposit is required as a card debit or cheque, this will be followed by an inspection and a record will be made of the chipper’s condition. On return a further inspection will be made and if signed off satisfactorily the deposit returned. Any damage that has occurred will be chargeable and deducted from the deposit.
Initially, we will intend to supervise the set up and use of the chipper to prevent the unnecessary damage that has occurred. A member of SWWF Ltd staff will need to be present prior to use to assess the power unit (a reasonably modern >50HP tractor is the minimum), timber to be chipped, site preparation and Health and Safety issues. If we are unhappy with the above, we reserve the right to terminate the hire until the problems have been sorted out.
Costs
The rates of hire charges will be as follows: £60 for the first day, £30 for subsequent days.
Blade sharpening £25
Blade purchase £270 per set, we are currently researching other suppliers, there may be possibilities to lease blades for SWWF in the interim.
The increased daily hire rate will pay for a maintenance and safety check costing £20 to be completed on the chipper on its return from each hire period.
