Solar
Solartwin is a unique solar thermal system - it is the only one which is 100% solar
and carbon emissions free. It does this by using a photo-voltaic to drive
a circulation pump. The PV and the thermal collector run off the same
solar power, and they are inherently balanced, and the variable speed
pump acts as the control for the system. Solartwin has another innovation
- it uses flexible, silicone rubber pipes which are freeze tolerant, and
consequently ordinary water is used as the heat transfer medium, not antifreeze.
In areas like the SW with soft water, this solar heated water can go directly
into the top of the existing hot water cylinder where it is needed, then
taken out to the taps. Hot water is produced in the range 55 - 85 degrees
C. Solartwin is the perfect complement to a wood burning system - it is
at its most effective from May to September when people prefer not to
be running stoves and ranges. Solartwin is suited to domestic newbuild
and retrofit, and normally takes less than a day to install. It is also
suited to installations on social housing developments, community buildings,
or pre-heating to large scale unvented hot water systems. Having no mains
electric connections it is ideal for remote locations, or where electricity
supplies are unreliable.
